Whether you’re meeting your colleagues for after-work drinks, heading out on the town with friends or visiting Halifax for the very first time, this east coast city has you covered when it comes to cocktails. Halifax has a wide selection of places to grab a drink and only a short distance between each. Why just visit one spot when you can easily hit up a few in one evening?

Whether you’re looking for unique combinations of flavours in your cocktails or if you want that “perfect shot,” you won’t be disappointed with any of these Halifax hot spots.

In partnership with, Porter Airlines, my friend Reilly Mooring and I ventured out to all of our favorite gems in our beloved city.

Field Guide

2076 Gottingen Street

Field Guide is a must stop on the Halifax cocktail tour. Not only is this quaint restaurant perfectly situated between downtown and the north end, it also offers an expansive menu full of flavourful and colourful cocktails that blend perfectly with the pink backdrop, teal menus and yellow chairs.

1673 Barrington Street

Highwayman, a sister restaurant to Field Guide, is another great option to grab a cocktail. This Spanish-inspired restaurant and bar is located on one of the main downtown streets of Halifax, making it a convenient stop. It offers the highest-quality spirits that the owners can get their hands on.

Bar Kismet

2733 Agricola Street

Bar Kismet is newer to Halifax’s cocktail scene, but has already made its mark. This seafood-driven restaurant and cocktail bar is the perfect spot for those who enjoy an oyster or two paired with their favourite aperitif.

Little Oak Bar

Bishop’s Landing- Lower Water Street

Little Oak Bar can be found off the main boardwalk, nestled between an array of various shops and restaurants. Although this bar is smaller than its surrounding neighbours, it holds its own and shines through as a favourite stop in Halifax. The second you walk through into this wooden gem, you’ll immediately know you’re somewhere special.

Lot Six

1685 Argyle Street

It wouldn’t be a Halifax cocktail guide without Lot Six. This downtown restaurant and bar has proven time and again that they’re always up on the latest cocktail trends. The space includes an outdoor patio on one of the city’s most lively dining destination streets, as well as an atrium that brings in natural light all day long and glistens with fairy lights at night. If you’re looking for the perfect shot, then this is your place.
